Maninder Singh Quote

We’re excited to welcome Manider Singh as our new Director of Operations. We sat down with him to discuss why he decided to join ION Energy, what challenges he’s looking forward to tackling, what kind of people he’s looking for to join his team, and much more! Read on to learn more about Sameer and whether you’d be a good fit for the team.

Tell us a bit about yourself and your background.

First things first – I’m absolutely thrilled to be an #IONite!

I have spent more than 13 years leading organizations across the Automotive, Electronics, and Telecom sectors. In my professional journey to date, I have worked in regional and global roles and gained experience leading and mentoring people from cross-geography and cross-culture.

I graduated in Electronics & Communication Engineering from the Institution of Engineers. Prior to that, I completed my diploma in the same stream from North India’s best diploma college, i.e., Govt. Polytechnic Nilokheri, Karnal, Haryana. To further enhance my operations management skills, I got certifications like Black Belt in Lean Six Sigma, process expertise in VDA 6.3 standards, and internal auditor for IATF 16949:2016.

What responsibilities will you have as the new Director of Operations at ION Energy?

As the Director of Operations, no day is ever the same for me. I interact with each department within the organization and everyone keeps me on my toes! An essential part of my role is to keep a tab on the data to ensure that our initiatives and systems are always creating a positive impact.

The production planning and control process is the backbone of any organization. In this process, too, many inherent and unique issues impact the supply chain and affect the timely supply of materials to the customer. I will work with the team for better supplier communication of raw materials procurement, reduce investment in inventory, reduce production cost by increasing efficiency, and ensure the smooth flow of all production processes.

The quality of products will be one of my top priorities. In my view, an authentic quality culture is an environment where team members genuinely care about the quality of their work and make decisions based on the goal of achieving that level of quality. I will work with the team to establish an effective and right-sized Quality Management System.

I will also work with the sales team to understand the ever-evolving customer requirements in terms of quality, cost, and delivery.

My team will also manage several of our vendor relationships, which often require attention to detail and persistence. I am working on establishing procedures and putting them into effect while maintaining a laser-like focus on where we can cut costs and achieve savings as a company.

What excited you about the opportunity to join ION Energy?

When I first came across this position, it felt like a catalyst for an #AllElectric future. I was searching for something that would foster the growth of my career, and ION Energy seemed the logical next step.

Additionally, all the teams consist of the smartest people I have ever known. What’s applauding is that they all come together to achieve the same goal – Accelerating the Earth’s Transition to an All-Electric Future!

At ION, the team is continually pushing the boundaries, and I think that’s why we’re making so much noise in the global e-mobility industry and why we’re able to stand out against the competition.

What will be your priority in your new position?

My priority is to improve the supply chain issues that the team is currently facing due to the worldwide semiconductor shortages. For this, we need to work closely with the distributors and manufacturers of these components.

My second priority is to shorten the turnaround time and resolve the production challenges for the new products and the products currently in production.

Finally, we need to set up our own manufacturing plant which shows commitment to being ready for the all-electric future.

How will you measure success in this role?

A business must know its end results to obtain successful operations. To know the end results, someone must be accountable for the output. As Director of Operations, my key focus will be on the following KPIs:

  1. Customer Satisfaction Score: Customer satisfaction is an important KPI for every organization looking to fuel growth and achieve success.  There are many metrics that can be used to gauge customer satisfaction: Voice of Customer (VOC), Customer Satisfaction (CSAT), and Net Promoter Score (NPS) are the most popular measures. This score can help zoom in on process gaps and operational lapses within the organization.
  2. Productivity: In today’s competitive environment, companies that don’t continue to increase productivity won’t survive. We at ION are on a mission to set up a state-of-the-art manufacturing plant meeting global standards to cater to our customers’ demands.
  3. Operating Margins: The operating margin is an essential measure of a company’s overall profitability from operations. We will achieve higher margins by applying continuous improvement techniques to reduce the cost of production without sacrificing quality.
  4. Employee Satisfaction and Engagement: We at ION are committed to providing a healthy work environment to keep our employees satisfied and engaged so that they feel passionate about their jobs and are committed to the organization.

What does successful communication between different departments mean to you as the Director of Operations?

Communication is one of the organizational functions that help a company stay efficient and productive. One of the more essential forms of corporate communication is inter-departmental communication. Accurate and efficient communication between departments builds trust within the organization. When departments trust each other to deliver accurate information, this eliminates the extra fact-checking step that can slow down productivity.

And finally, what drives you to work every day?

Success is what motivates me to do a good job. Knowing that my hard work and perseverance will help me achieve greater professional success keeps me going. ION Energy is doing a great job by developing advanced BMS technology to contribute to the e-mobility space for the sustainable future and provided me the opportunity to be a part of this change which keeps me going every day. I feel that aligning the company’s vision and values with my own is one way to achieve that.
